March News 2015

Junior Wimbledon Ballot

Six pairs of tickets are available for the Junior Wimbledon ballot. This is open to juniors who are bona fide members of Western tennis club. You also need a BTM and to have "opted in". We wrote to you about this in the Nov/Dec blog which you can find HERE

The draw will take place on Sunday 22nd March at 6 pm in the bar. If you cannot make it, you can nominate someone to attend in your place. If you haven't responded to LTA emails to opt in you may not be valid to enter the draw. Email us if unsure.

Easter Camp

We are about 50% full for both weeks of Easter camp. Please book soon to avoid disappointment. Details HERE

Current Block and next block

The current block finishes on Friday 3rd April. It restarts on Sunday 19th April and runs for 9 weeks with no breaks. Details of prices and how to pay will appear HERE We will assume you are coming back if we don't hear from you. There is usually a waiting list next term for spaces so please let us know if you do NOT intend to return.

Anyone for TEAnnis?!

We have been running matchplay at the club 3 - 5 on Sundays and this will continue Sundays 22nd March and Sunday 29th March. Boys and girls are both welcome of red, orange and green level. Cost £3. To try and encourage more girls, we have leafleted sporadically this week and posted on facebook encouraging those coming along to bring some food with them and cake stands (!) and we can have an afternoon tea/ picnic afterwards in the bar. Just turn up if you fancy coming along! The girls can play against girls only if they prefer and everyone welcome to stay for a snack so bring some food to share.

Parent Meetings and Memberships

Thanks to those who attended our recent tennis meetings. One of the main things we wanted you to know about is that we have developed a new parent and child membership. This entitles the parent to play tennis with their child but also to access the gym during junior coaching times ie 3- 6 pm Monday to Friday and 9-12 on a Sunday. This is £150 for parent and child (or £100 if your child already a member) which we think is superb value!!! We also have made changes to the gym over the last couple of weeks that are worth seeing! Loads of new equipment. Just ask for a tour when you're in if interested.

A Coach, A Court and a Competition

Coaches from the club are introducing tennis to Primary 4s all over this area, many for the first time. This project is sponsored by Clyde Property who enable us to offer curriculum time coaching and also free after school opportunities at a variety of sites. We have a graduate and former student of ours Matthew McIntyre helping to manage this project and he has set up social media for the project that we invite you to follow/like and help us spread the word of our outreach programme!
Thanks Matt!

Rally for Bally - save the date

We will be running a Celebrity Tennis Fundraising event on Saturday 6/6 at the club like we did last year. Once again we will be raising money for the Elena Baltacha Tennis Foundation and also this year for http://www.playlistforlife.org.uk/  which is a charity founded by Sally Magnusson that encourages families and their carers to create a playlist of personally meaningful music on an iPod for people with dementia.

The format for the day will include free tennis playing opportunities during the day followed by the celebrity event at 5 pm ish, auction and raffle at 6 pm and then this year we are extending the event in line with the ethos of playlist for life with musical entertainment from 7 pm.

All details will be released shortly including how to buy tickets etc.

At this point if you know of anyone or would like to donate to the auction, or sponsor the stand or anything at the event, please get in touch with juliegtennis@gmail.com

We hope you are all enjoying the better weather!
